What spermicide?
Spermicide is a birth control method that contains chemicals that prevent sperm from moving. Spermicides are available in various forms, including creams, film, foams, gels and suppositories.
Spermicides can be used alone, or it can be used with other methods of birth control to make them more effective. It is always used with the diaphragm and the cervical cap.
How does spermicide work?
Spermicides prevent pregnancy by keeping sperm from joining with an egg. Spermicides are inserted deep into the vagina shortly before intercourse. they
1- block the cervix so sperm can not reach an egg
2- keep sperm to move, so they can not join an egg
How effective is spermicide?
Efficiency is a major concern and common when choosing a method of birth control.
Like all methods of birth control, spermicide is more effective when used correctly.
If women always use spermicide as directed, 15 out of 100 will become pregnant each year.
If women do not always use a spermicide as directed, 29 out of 100 will become pregnant each year.
When used alone, spermicides is not very effective. You can make it more effective if you also use a female condom.
Your partner can help you make a more effective spermicide using a latex condom or pulling out before ejaculation.
But even if you do not use another method with spermicide, your chances of getting pregnant is much cheaper than if you use no contraception at all.
Keep in mind that spermicides can not reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections. Use latex condoms or women to reduce the risk of infection
